One of my first ideas was to take a leaf out of the 2007 film Miss Potter and have 2d animations coming to life on the pages they were drawn on. this takes place sevel times though out the film with one character coming off the page and interacting with a live action character. These effects were done by the visual effect houses Cinesite and Passion Pictures though a series of visual effects techniques. www.awn.com/vfxworld/animating-world-miss-potter
In the images bellow one can see the before and after of the procces, with the empty clean plate that was shot on set and the final shot. The pages were the animation was to take place were empty apart form tracker markers which will have been used for tracking the motion of the camera. The animation was then placed into the shot following the trackers and then comped in to sit well in the shot.
My second idea was to place 2D animation onto a live action plate, similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit but instead film in a small set, similar to that of a stop motion set. This will be easier for me to complete than having my characters interact with live action actors, in terms of technical difficulty but also adding actors into a narrative.
What was done well with Who Framed Roger Rabbit was that the 2D character was light to site well in the shot. Richard Williams explained this well in this viode about the Making Of, say that adding the components of back lighting and mattes make the characters fit in the shot.
